During the first two years, residents will rotate through nine months of obstetrics.
- Three months at DHMC
- Six months at SNHMC
They will also have nine months of inpatient gynecology.
- Three months of benign gynecology at DHMC
- Three months of gynecological oncology at DHMC
- Three months of benign gynecology at SNHMC
During the first year of residency, residents spend three months on obstetrics, primarily focused on normal obstetrics with our CNM, generalist and MFM faculty. Residents spend one month on family planning rotation providing the full range of family planning services in a variety of outpatient settings. Residents receive ultrasonography training during their family planning and obstetrics rotations. There are three months of gynecology with inpatient outpatient and operative experience. There are two invaluable "off service" rotations in Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine. There are three months of night float during the intern year.

During the third year, residents do three-month rotations in:
- Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility
- Gynecologic Oncology
- Maternal-Fetal Medicine
There are two months of "elective" time where residents are given the opportunity to pursue individual interests. Some residents use this time to pursue research experience, while others have chosen to travel to other centers in other parts of the country. Some residents have pursued international electives in Latin America and Africa.
Residents in the third year also spend a month on a Practice-Based Learning and Improvement and Systems-Based Practice rotation. During this rotation, residents have the opportunity to improve an area of practice for a defined patient population or a concern related to daily work.
