Numerous conferences are regularly scheduled throughout the week that encourage both staff and resident interaction.

Daily 6:30 – 6:45 am
- Trauma Review The residents, trauma attendings, and on call attending conduct a brief review of trauma cases from the previous night’s call. Handoffs can occur during this time, as well.
Mondays 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.
- Trauma Conference A 2 year curriculum of trauma topics is presented in a bried didactic session followed by case presentations related to that week's topic.
Tuesdays 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.
- Rotating Conference
- A Morbidity and Mortality (M&M) conference is held the first Tuesday of each month. Residents present cases to discuss complications that have occurred over the preceding month.
- Pathology conference is once a month. Oncology topics are presented based on a two-year curriculum.
- Journal Club is held monthly throughout the year. Senior residents assign articles for review to the resident and attending staff from various peer-reviewed journals.
- A Research-In-Progress (RIP) conference allows residents to present their ongoing research to attendings for advice on the progress of their work.
Wednesdays 6:45 to 7:45 a.m., 7:45 to 8:45 a.m., spring evenings
- Grand Rounds Basic Science and clinical topics are presented throughout the year by residents, attendings, and guest lecturers.
- Core curriculum A formal 2 year orthopaedic curriculum given in didactic format by the attending staff at DHMC to residents throughout the year. PowerPoint presentations, outlines and key articles for each topic are available to residents on the DHMC Orthopaedic Residency internal website
Thursdays 6:45 to 7:45 a.m., spring evenings
- Indications Conference (September-June) Subspecialty protected time allows attending staff and residents on each team to meet informally in small groups to review interesting cases from the prior week and go over indications for upcoming cases.
- Dartmouth Orthopaedic Summer Institute (July and August) Topics necessary to handle acute orthopaedic problems, such as emergent care of hand injuries, evaluation of multiple trauma patients, recognition of compartment syndromes, pediatric emergencies, and evaluation of spinal cord injury patients. Focus of these lectures is the physical exam of the musculoskeletal system and is directed towards the incoming junior residents.
- Anatomy dissection laboratory Annual 10-week dissection covers the axial skeleton, upper extremity and lower extremity. Junior and senior residents are responsible on a weekly basis to provide the soft tissue dissection and the osteology discussion. (Thursday evenings in the spring)
Fridays 6:45 to 7:45 a.m.
- Staff meetings
- Week 1: Residents' Meeting - A time to review administrative updates, programmatic updates, policy changes, etc. This is also a time for residents to make recommendations for changes they would like to see in the program. Residents, faculty, and program director attend.
- Weeks 2-5: Staff Meeting
