Deliberately avoiding the trappings and rigid formalities of a "traditional" university academic training program, Dartmouth-Hitchcock's Orthopaedic Residency functions in a particularly rich academic environment. Dartmouth College is one of the most highly regarded educational institutions in the country, and serves as an intellectual model for the residency program.
The need to know more about the practice of orthopaedics has never been more urgent. Unchecked medical costs are driven by many new procedures that have not undergone rigorous scientific investigation as to their effectiveness. Physicians can barely keep pace with the latest medical research much less perform it themselves. Dartmouth-Hitchcock Orthopaedics aspires to attract and develop orthopaedic physicians capable of leading change and improving the systems where people and health care meet.
Through combined program offerings with the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, our residents have the truly unique opportunity to participate in advanced academic degree programs (MS, MPH), as well as state of the art, applied leadership and practicum experiences that focus on measuring outcomes and improving the technical, service and cost excellence of care for patients and populations.
