Visiting Student Rotations

We welcome fourth-year medical students to visit our Otolaryngology Residency Training Program here at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Spend a month working closely with, and getting to know, our dedicated faculty and residents in beautiful northern New England. Experience firsthand what our small, high-quality, and successful training program has to offer.

We typically offer four-week rotations during the academic year. As a visiting student, you will participate fully in the daily work of the adult and pediatric Otolaryngology services at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, including inpatient and outpatient surgery, subspecialty Otolaryngology clinics, inpatient consultations, ENT emergencies and Oncology. Exposure to the breadth of Otolaryngological practice is emphasized, including head and neck surgery, otology/neurotology, pediatric otolaryngology, facial plastic and reconstructive surgery as well as audiology and speech and language services. Students join the residents in the didactic curriculum and conference program, including weekly Grand Rounds, M&M Conference, Radiology conference, and Tumor Board at Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Visiting sub-interns are invited to give a presentation on a relevant clinical or research topic to the faculty and residents prior to conclusion of the rotation.

If you are interested in visiting, please take a look at the Fourth Year Medical Student Elective Program website at Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. The Otolaryngology Sub-Internship is listed as SURG-421 under the Department of Surgery in Geisel School Electives.

Information regarding housing accommodations during elective time is available on the Visiting Students-Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth website.

Prospective visiting students may contact Elfleda (Mae) Tucker, visiting student coordinator, or Mark Smith, MD, faculty director, for more information. We use the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service through the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Thank you for taking an interest in our training program!
