- Develop communication skills important to palliative care including: delivering bad news, conducting a family conference, addressing code status, performing spiritual assessment, clarifying goals of care, advance care planning.
- Provide anticipatory guidance regarding life completion and closure for terminal ill patients and their families.
- Understand cross-cultural beliefs and needs of patients and families regarding end of life care.
- Provide guidance to patients and families regarding death and bereavement.
- Know basic strategies for communicating effectively with other team members, showing respect and appreciation for the contributions of each discipline to care of the patient, and using conflict resolution skills to promote effective teamwork.
