Time Lost from Residency

I. Purpose of Policy

The purpose of this policy is to ensure that the Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Directors are monitoring all time lost from residency training in accordance with the specifications of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and the Residency Review Committees (RRC) for each specialty.

II. Policy Scope

This policy applies to all ACGME-accredited residency and fellowship programs at Dartmouth- Hitchcock (D-H).

III. Definitions

Resident: Any physician in an accredited graduate medical education program, including interns, residents, and fellows.

IV. Policy Statement

  • Remuneration for time off, other than the specified 15 days paid vacation per year, the 5 sick/personal days and the particular benefits of health coverage, will be at the discretion of the Program Director and Director of Graduate Medical Education. Resident personal time and conference time is allowed at discretion of Program Director.

  • Program Directors must supply timely notice of the effect of leave(s) on the ability of the resident to satisfy requirements for program completion.
