Research
Research covers a broad range of the biomedical sciences, with particular depth in gene therapy, immunology, cell and molecular biology, cancer, and medical outcomes. Laboratories are located on the DHMC Lebanon campus, the Dartmouth Medical School, and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. Clinical research is conducted in every department, and house officers are encouraged to participate in clinical presentations at regional and national meetings in their disciplines.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency
Beginning with the 2003-2004 training year, select residents and fellows can participate in a leadership program leading to a Dartmouth MPH in the evaluative clinical sciences. The graduate will also be double-board eligible in their "home" specialty as well as in Preventive Medicine. The program includes four terms of study (adding an additional two years of study to the base "home" residency) that prepare graduates for significant leadership roles in the evolution and rationalization of the US healthcare system. Residents and fellows will work closely with a mentor to design a program of study and research the framework of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education's (ACGME) general competencies.
Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science
A problem as complex as the U.S. health care system needs the focus and expertise of many disciplines. The Dartmouth Center for Health Care Delivery Science represents an aggressive collaboration across all the schools at Dartmouth—undergraduate and graduate—and its affiliated health system, Dartmouth-Hitchcock. Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice
The Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice was established at the Dartmouth Medical School in 1989.The Institute is home to a diverse group of scientists and clinician-scholars interested in evaluating fundamental questions in medicine: how well medical procedures actually work; how to improve the quality of medical and surgical care; how health care resources are distributed and used; and how patients value medical interventions and their consequences. The Institute leads the nation in clinical outcomes research and provides opportunities for residents to do research in the field.
C. Everett Koop Institute
Dr. C. Everett Koop’s commitment to fostering primary care as the foundation of health care is realized in the work of the Koop Institute at Dartmouth. As a partnership of educators, scholars, researchers, and practicing physicians dedicated to reshaping medical education and health care, the institute addresses critical issues including the doctor/patient relationship, disease prevention and lifestyle, and population based research.
