Time Lost from Residency

I. Purpose of policy

It is the expectation that Graduate Medical Education (GME) Program Directors will monitor Residents’ time lost from Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) – accredited training programs.

II. Policy scope

The policy applies to all Residents participating in ACGME-accredited graduate medical education programs at Dartmouth-Hitchcock (D-H).

III. Definitions

Resident: Any physician in an ACMGE-accredited graduate medical education program including residents and fellows.

IV. Policy statement

  • All Residents will receive 15 days paid vacation, 5 sick/personal days per year and elected health care benefits provided by D-H.
  • Remuneration for any additional time off will be at the discretion of the Program Director and Director of Graduate Medical Education.
    • Time away from the ACGME-accredited program to attend a conference will be at the discretion of Program Director.
  • Program Directors must communicate in a timely manner the effect the leave(s) will have on the ability of the resident to satisfy requirements for program completion.
