General objective: Understand the methodology, indications and hazards and be able to perform and interpret the results of ultrasonography of the urinary tract and male genitalia.

  • TRUS and biopsy
  • Renal biopsy


General objective: Understand and be able to perform and interpret a urodynamic assessment.

  • Cystometrogram
  • Urine flowmetry
  • Pelvic floor electromyography
  • Voiding/pressure studies
  • Urethral pressure profile


General objective: Using gross and microscopic features become proficient in identifying and differentiating the following:

  • Kidney cancer
  • Ureter and renal pelvis
  • Bladder cancer
  • Prostate cancer
  • Penile lesions
  • Testicular cancer
  • Urethral lesions
  • Adrenal lesions


General objective: The resident should understand the purpose of research and be familiar with the use of reference material in managing clinical problems. The resident shall complete at least one research project.

  • Demonstrate ability to find answers to questions via literature search and review
  • Demonstrate ability to formulate a research plan to answer questions
  • Demonstrate understanding of basic statistical methods
  • Be able to critically review journal articles and clinical trials
  • Submit a research proposal to a funding agency
  • Be familiar with the ethical principles of human/animal experimentation
  • Submit a research proposal to a human or animal research review committee
  • Demonstrate ability to perform and complete a given research project
  • Acquire techniques of data presentation
    • Slide design
    • Oral presentation or poster presentation
    • Journal article
