Visiting Student Rotations
We welcome visiting medical students who are interested in urology and would like to complete an advanced elective or sub-internship with our program.
We typically offer four-week rotations during the academic year. Visiting students participate fully in the daily work of the adult and pediatric urology service at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, including inpatient and outpatient surgery, general and subspecialty urology clinics, and inpatient and Emergency Department consultations. Exposure to the breadth of urological practice is emphasized, including oncology, endourology and stone disease, laparoscopy and minimally-invasive surgery, pediatric urology, and female pelvic medicine and reconstructive surgery. Students join the residents in the didactic curriculum and conference program, including weekly Grand Rounds, Genitourinary Radiology conference, and Genitourinary Tumor Board at Norris Cotton Cancer Center. Visiting sub-interns are invited to give a presentation on a relevant clinical or research topic to the faculty and residents at Grand Rounds at the conclusion of the rotation.
Prospective visiting students may contact Penny Newton, visiting student coordinator, or Lawrence Dagrosa, faculty director, for more information. We use the AAMC Visiting Student Application Service through the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. Applicants are also encouraged to submit a current CV, medical school transcript, and United States Medical Licensing Examination (or equivalent) results to Penny Newton.
