The fellowship in Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery (FPMRS/Urogynecology) at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center was approved by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in September 2018. Our goal is to train academic subspecialty physicians to be outstanding leaders in clinical care, research, and teaching.
The graduating FPMRS fellow will become an expert in the comprehensive surgical and medical management of women with pelvic floor disorders, including urinary incontinence and lower urinary tract disorders; pelvic organ prolapse and childbirth-related injuries, including fistulas; anal incontinence and bowel dysfunction.
Diverse surgical training in minimally-invasive vaginal, laparoscopic and robotic surgery is part of the core of the fellowship. In addition, there are opportunities to participate in global health electives. Clinical training will include formal rotations in urology, gastroenterology, and colorectal surgery; in addition to exposure in geriatric medicine.
There are 12 months of dedicated research time during the three-year fellowship, with options for collaboration in The Dartmouth Institute and Thayer School of Engineering at Dartmouth, among others.
Fellows participate in the teaching components at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. The clinical experience exposes the postgraduate fellow to a broad panel of patients with a rich diversity of diagnoses and demographics. Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center is a tertiary medical center that principally serves the population of New Hampshire, Vermont, southern Maine, and northern Massachusetts.

There are options to combine the FPMRS fellowship with the Leadership Preventive Medicine program, jointly offered by the Dartmouth Institute for Health Care Policy and Clinical Practice (TDI) and Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. The program is an ACGME program and the graduate earns a Master of Public Health degree.
