The Department of Radiology is planning to launch our Diagnostic Medical Physics Residency Program in 2027! This is a new imaging physics residency program at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, which is the flagship institution of Dartmouth Health. Dartmouth Health is a non-profit medical center that includes the only academic medical center in New Hampshire as well as a network of affiliated sites and critical access hospitals. The Radiology Department has had a radiology residency program since 1940, so this new program will be founded in a department with a long-established focus on education. We are proud to be the first diagnostic medical physics residency program in New Hampshire!
Accreditation
We have applied for accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs (CAMPEP).
Program structure
Our program is two years in length, focusing on clinical training in all modalities. Experience is obtained through full integration into the activities of the Medical Physics section, where the resident will participate in clinical activities in all modalities throughout the two years. Competency assessments follow a defined structure, outlined in our curriculum. The resident will gradually progress in independence throughout the program, and should be able to practice independently by completion.

There are so many things! We are proud of the high level of collaboration between medical physics and the other radiology sections at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Residents will learn from our team of three faculty physicists, the facility’s Radiation Safety Officer, and a team of radiologists who love educating new professionals. Residents will also have the unique opportunity to experience a variety of clinical settings, from a state-of-the-art academic hospital to small rural critical access hospitals. Teaching opportunities are available for radiology residents and graduate students in the Medical Physics Education Program at Dartmouth. Additionally, the Upper Valley (which includes regions of both New Hampshire and Vermont) is absolutely beautiful across all four seasons, and offers peaceful living less than two hours from the excitement of Manchester, Boston, and Burlington.
