Our Program

Endocrinology fellows at Dartmouth-Hitchcock

The fellowship program in Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism offers two tracks to provide fellows with optimal training based on their professional goals.

The first-year schedule is the same for both tracks, save for participation in the Leadership/Preventive Medicine monthly evening seminars by fellows in the Leadership Track. An important feature of our curriculum is a strong emphasis on participation in core ambulatory continuity clinics in endocrinology, diabetes and pediatric endocrinology.

In addition to the core ambulatory clinics, our program includes additional structured experiences in endocrine surgery, transgender medicine, inpatient nutrition, and private practice endocrinology. First year fellows also rotate in a unique experiential inpatient diabetes consultation, quality and safety rotation. Training in thyroid ultrasound and ultrasound-guided thyroid aspiration biopsy is included in the curriculum.

This track will be available to fellows primarily interested in pursuing a career in the clinical practice of endocrinology and diabetes. Fellows are provided with extensive experience in the evaluation and care of patients with diabetes and a broad range of endocrine disorders. The track will entail two years of clinical rotations, and will include the equivalent of four months in which the fellow will be expected to complete a substantive clinical research or improvement project.

This track will be offered to selected residents and is tailored for those interested in gaining further knowledge and skills in the assessment of medical outcomes and in leading change and improvements in health care systems. The track combines one year of clinical training in endocrinology and diabetes with Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's acclaimed 2-year Leadership-Preventive Medicine residency program. Rotations in endocrinology and diabetes will continue on a limited basis during the LPM curriculum, and the practicum project will be performed within the discipline of endocrinology, diabetes and metabolism. When completed, fellows will be board eligible in Endocrinology and in Preventive Medicine, and will have acquired a Masters in Public Health (MPH) through the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at Dartmouth College.
