Mission

Our mission is to guide and educate physicians as they develop the skills and expertise to provide safe epilepsy treatments to patients. We seek to train physicians to continuously improve their education and academic or clinical practice.

Program aims

  • To train physicians to practice independently in the field of epilepsy
  • To advance the field of epilepsy surgery
  • To train physicians for academic epilepsy practice

During the Epilepsy Fellowship, you become proficient in:

  • Outpatient management of patients with refractory epilepsy
  • Interpreting long-term video EEG recordings
  • Deciding between resective surgery vs. brain stimulation for the treatment of refractory epilepsy
  • Conducting clinical research
  • Teaching residents and medical students
  • Inpatient management of patients in the Epilepsy Monitoring Unit
  • Planning and interpretation of intracranial stereo EEG recordings
  • Use of Neuropace

Those successfully completing the program are eligible for subspecialty certification in Epilepsy by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. The optional combined 2-year fellowship program better prepares candidates for an academic practice in a tertiary epilepsy center, offering a greater opportunity to become proficient at surgical treatments and also to become more involved in research studies.
