After their first year of pathology residency training, residents take combined anatomic and clinical pathology call. Call is taken from home and the resident is provided with a long-range digital pager. Residents create their on-call schedule in conjunction with the chief residents. They are paired with attending staff and occasionally with pathology fellows, and approach all on-call duties as a team. Staff pathologists are always available on-call for back-up support and supervision.
These experiences are structured to provide not only continuous patient care but also educational opportunities that augment those that occur during the day.
