Our 3-year, Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education-accredited combined Hematology/Oncology Fellowship Program offers the training needed to become eligible for double boarding. The program was founded in 1960 and it has grown considerably in the last decade.

Dr. Frederick "Erick" Lansigan graduated from Yale College in 1995 with a BA in Music and Pre-med. He then received his Medical Degree from SUNY Downstate in 2002 with a Commendation in Investigative Scholarship. He completed his residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine at Albert Einstein Montefiore Hospital in 2006. He then completed his Hematology/Oncology Fellowship at the Yale Cancer Center in 2009. He joined Dartmouth Health in 2009 and since then has held leadership positions as Medical Director of Inpatient Cancer Services until 2022, and the Interim Associate Dean of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at Geisel School of Medicine from 2021-2022. Currently, he is the Director of Clinical Trials for Hematologic Malignancies, the Fellowship Program Director for Hematology/Oncology, and the Associate Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging at the Dartmouth Cancer Center. Dr. Lansigan is a master educator, skilled clinical trialist, and quality improvement specialist and his interest is in achieving health equity in cancer care locally, nationally, and globally. He has been a supporter and participant in the Global Oncology program at Dartmouth. His mission is to train future leaders to improve cancer care everywhere.
Dr. Lansigan's vision for the fellowship program is to train conscientious physician researchers, educators, health equity champions, social justice advocates, and clinicians who will continue to advance the care of cancer patients. Through a holistic approach of nurturing each trainee, we are effective at maximizing the potential of each of our fellows. Their diverse interests guide our mentorship efforts, and fellows engage in all aspects of learning through clinical practice, formal didactics, research projects, case presentations, quality improvement work, health and workforce diversity, equity, and inclusion projects, advocacy work, and community engagement. We are proud to see such growth in our fellows during training and in their careers after they graduate.
A welcome message from our Director
Thank you for your interest in the Hematology-Oncology Fellowship Program. Our aim is to train Hematology-Oncology Fellows in the art and science of balancing complex and constantly changing cancer treatments with compassionate patient care, academic reflection with a global perspective, and a healthy personal and home life.
With faculty committed to education and the well-being of our fellows, we cover benign and malignant hematology and solid tumor oncology through inpatient and outpatient service rotations with bedside, case presentations, and didactic teaching methods. We pride ourselves on a flexible program that allows the third year of fellowship to be designed to meet the interests of our fellows on a personalized level.
All of our fellows go on to fulfilling careers in the academic, urban, rural or private practice settings of their choice. In their second year, Fellows also have the option of applying for a combined MPH program through the Dartmouth Institute, through the Leadership Preventive Medicine program, adding a fourth year to their post-graduate training to complete all requirements to be board-eligible in Preventive Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology.
As Northern New England’s only NCI-designated Cancer Center, we are a catchment area for northern New Hampshire, Massachusetts, eastern upstate New York and Vermont for stem cell transplant, CAR-T, immunotherapy, solid tumor oncology, and cutting-edge clinical trials. Our faculty have national and international experience with a commitment to mentoring our fellows in their areas of expertise.
