Facilities

The breast imaging section at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center performs over 17,000 screening mammograms each year serving a large number of Northern New England communities. In addition, the breast imaging section provides more advanced imaging services including high-resolution ultrasound and breast MRI (including an abbreviated protocol for women with dense breast tissue). Interventional procedures include ultrasound guided, stereotactic, and MRI-guided biopsies, needle localizations, and MagSeed placements. The breast imaging section includes 10 wonderful technologists, most of which are cross-trained in procedures and breast ultrasound. A nurse-navigator facilitates patient scheduling, procedures, and biopsy result delivery. As a team, we work extensively with the Comprehensive Breast Program, a subspecialty group within the Norris-Cotton Cancer Center, which is an NCI designated comprehensive cancer center.

A new Women’s Imaging Center is being built in 2025 to centralize screening and diagnostic activities as well as DEXA studies.
