Application format
Applications should be submitted through the centralized application process utilized for Micrographic Surgery and Dermatologic Oncology fellowship programs.
Applicants should submit all required application materials according to current national application guidelines.
Applicant selection
Our MSDO Fellowship program participates in the San Francisco Match. All application materials should be submitted through the SFMatch for consideration.
Applications are reviewed holistically with consideration given to:
- Academic performance and clinical excellence
- Surgical aptitude and procedural experience
- Professionalism and leadership
- Research and scholarly activities
- Commitment to cutaneous oncology and dermatologic surgery
- Letters of recommendation and mentorship evaluations
- Alignment with the mission and educational goals of the fellowship
Application requirements
Applications must include:
- Medical school dean’s letter
- Medical school transcript
- Three to four letters of recommendation, including one from the residency program director
- Curriculum vitae
- Personal statement
- Documentation of completed ACGME-accredited dermatology program or anticipated completion prior to fellowship start date. Board eligibility in dermatology is required at the beginning of fellowship.
- Valid Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) documentation, if applicable
Position requirements
Applicants must:
- Successfully complete an accredited dermatology residency program prior to fellowship start
- Be board-eligible or board-certified in dermatology
- Be eligible for medical licensure in the applicable training state(s)
There is no minimum United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) score requirement; however, applicants must have successfully completed required licensing examinations.
Interview process
Selected applicants will be invited for interviews after review of completed applications. Interviews are conducted virtually.
The interview experience includes:
- Introduction to the fellowship and educational mission
- Meetings with fellowship leadership and faculty
- Individual faculty interviews
- Opportunities to meet the current fellow and members of the surgical team
- Overview of clinical facilities and training experiences
- Dedicated question and answer sessions
