Clinical / clinician educator
The clinical track provides training aligned with a career in academic medicine or clinical practice. This is a flexible program leading to dual board certification. Of the 3 years, 18 months are spent working on designated clinical programs and 18 months are unrestricted so each fellow can pursue personal clinical directions.
Basic science research track / clinical investigator
The basic science track provides outstanding training in bench-top and translational research for a successful career as a physician-scientist. Considerable experience in laboratory-based research prior to fellowship is required. Up to 6 months of uninterrupted research time within the first two years of fellowship can be arranged with an approved research plan and external funding goal.
Fellows may participate in clinical-based research within the Norris Cotton Cancer Care Pavilion Lebanon and in other divisions or departments at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center.
Fellows interested in the basic science track identify a mentor and an area of research focus prior to starting the fellowship. Fellows in this track are expected to engage in laboratory meetings and to apply for extramural funding during their training.

Global health
Global oncology is a rapidly growing academic field with unique research questions and clinical dilemmas. Fellows interested in a Global Oncology career path are required to have international experience in low resource settings prior to fellowship. Continuity clinics can be arranged at sites that have American board-certified hematology-oncologists on site.
Fellows not on a Global Oncology career track can participate in up to 2 month-long global oncology electives in the second and third years of fellowship.

Leadership in Preventive Medicine
This track is tailored for those interested in gaining further knowledge and skills in the assessment of medical outcomes and in leading change and improvements in health care systems. This track combines clinical training in Hematology/Oncology with Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center's acclaimed 2-year Leadership Preventive Medicine Residency (LPMR) program. The track extends the length of training by 1 year.
- PGY-6: The 3rd year of Hematology/Oncology is Year 1 of LPMR. Continuity clinics in Hematology and Oncology are halted for the first 6 months and resume for the 2nd half of the academic year.
- PGY-7: Year 2 of LPMR: The trainee will complete continuity clinics in Hematology and Oncology as well as any other required rotations, while also completing a practicum project. When completed, fellows will be board eligible in Hematology, Oncology, and Preventive Medicine, and will have acquired a Masters in Public Health (MPH) through the Dartmouth Institute for Health Policy and Clinical Practice at Dartmouth College.
