Teaching Opportunities

In an academic medical center, fellows are constantly engaged with learners — residents on the inpatient services, medical students in clinic, and one another in conferences and case discussions. We also want fellows to have formal teaching exposure and deliberate practice in the craft of teaching. Nothing helps you learn material like having to teach it.

Each fellow has a formal, scheduled role in teaching first-year medical students at Geisel School of Medicine. Every year, each fellow leads three case-based small-group sessions: two in the Year 1 Hematology course (focused on hematologic malignancies) and one in the Year 1 Respiratory Medicine course (focused on lung cancer).

Fellows pursuing a career in medical education can take on more advanced roles, such as preparing a large-group teaching session, designing curriculum, or serving as a facilitator in the medical school's Problem-Based Learning program.
