Background
The Global Health Equity Track at Geisel’s Center for Health Equity is a multi-year track designed for residents, and fellows seeking to shape their coursework around themes of health equity and healthcare delivery science (HCDS) and to cultivate skills to best address these global issues. Upon successful completion of track requirements (3 courses, 1 capstone experience), trainees will be awarded a certificate of completion from Geisel.

1 Advanced Elective (Prerequisite: completion of Core Electives)
- Supervised Reading Elective: Advanced Principles of Global Health Equity and Care Delivery
B. Culminating Capstone Experience
Mentored capstone project that produces a scholarly article that is reviewed by faculty committee.
Core Electives are designed to (a) foster shared decision-making skills and (b) empower track participants to work in a variety of healthcare contexts in culturally sensitive and patient-oriented ways.
The Advanced Elective allows for interactive learning opportunities, where track participants will be able to engage with community representatives from across the globe to study global health equity issues—topics of which they may further investigate in the Supervised Reading Elective.
Curriculum and skill development
Through successful participation in this track, trainees will (a) critically engage with the intersection of global health, health equity, and HCDS and (b) develop skillsets translatable to future medical work on the global stage. Course material highlights topics on social determinants of health, shared decision-making, and psychological principles of being a physician. This framework aims to focus residents’ experience in a crosscultural context. The Global Health Equity Track aims to attract emerging medical professionals who wish to increase their understanding of current healthcare systems and critically assess those aspects that produce inequities in healthcare delivery and ultimately, health outcomes. In addition to cultivating analytic skills, this track provides space for residents, and fellows to personally reflect. To conclude the track, trainees will complete a culminating capstone project and produce a scholarly article.
Selection process
Candidates will be selected through a competitive application and interview process during a resident’s PGY-2 year. Track cohorts will be small to allow for closer mentoring and advising, and greater collaboration between trainees and track faculty mentors.
