Application selection process

Our program participates in the National Residency Matching Program (NRMP). Please search and find our program under Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center ACGME ID: 2803212136. Per the NRMP Match Calendar, registration for the Match opens in mid-September. Per the Otolaryngology Program Director Organization (OPDO), interview offers will be made in early November. We participate in the couples' match within our own program and with other residency programs in our medical center. The NRMP match occurs in mid-March. Residents will begin their training in June, following mandatory orientation sessions.

Application requirements

Interested applicants must apply through Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS), starting in early September. Applicants must submit a completed application with photograph and the following supporting documents:

  • Dean's letter/Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE)
  • Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) certification, if applicable
  • Medical School Transcript
  • Personal statement (the program specific paragraph is highly encouraged but not required)
  • United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) transcript with step 1 score (step 2 score is encouraged but not required)
  • 3 letters of recommendation

Otolaryngology participates in the signaling process through ERAS. Each applicant will have 25 signals and are expected to signal home and away rotation programs.

In addition to the program requirements mentioned above, our Graduate Medical Education Office has specific institutional eligibility requirements (PDF), including information about VISAs.

Please note that the State of New Hampshire requires a passing score on all parts of step 2 in order to be eligible for a Resident Training license.

Interviews

Interview Days are held in January and at this time will be performed in person primarily with virtual option for students who have done rotations at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. Interview dates will be updated on the OPDO interview calendar each year (OPDO resources). Alternative dates for interviews will be considered on an individual basis. Invitations to interview will be sent on the common interview offer date in early November by email to the address you have provided in ERAS.

Upon receipt of an application, the selection committee will review and notify each applicant by email of the decision to interview.
